exterior shot of Thorne's Food's Brighton

Local food and produce market Thorne’s Food has sadly called time on its Brighton based venture, less than since months since its doors first opened.

It was Thorne’s founder Jason Hurwitz’s vision to bring the very best of the county’s produce under one central Brighton roof.  While the concept store with top floor restaurant certainly chimed with local foodies, the business was ultimately crippled by the huge costs of renovating the previously derelict building. This left the business unable to cope with mounting debts, until the decision was finally taking to close Thorne’s doors.

While Devour Sussex commends the vision, passion and dedication of Jason and his team, what saddens me most is that Thorne’s was one the few genuine alternatives to the supermarkets in Brighton.

Unfortunately, so out of the way no-one really knew it was there. Coupled with the high prices because of it's product, it wasn't going to turn into anyones regular store. But yeah, a real shame. And I never got to eat in the restaurant :(
